Good Size. But Quality Control Seems LackingThis is my second Merlin. The first, a green one, developed a buzz while spinning and a "rattle" when shaken a couple of days after normal use. Possibly a bad bearing. The second, this one, was not "true" in spin. It wobbled. I took it apart and one of the response pads had extra material from the manufacturing process. I tried to remove that and smooth it out. Better but not a great improvement. So using parts from both Merlins, by trial and error, I came up with one multicolored one that spins reasonably true and quietly.It's too bad because I find these to be good for practicing my very beginner string tricks. I suggest making a step up and buying a YoYo King Spin Control. I did. It's a much better product for not too much more money. 2Like the product, just wish I knew they also sold an option with the higher skill bearing as well...Have been looking for a decent intermediate level yo-yo for a while and decided to go with this one. It came with three strings and 2 what I can only best describe and flexible o rings though not sure what they are actually called. The yo-yo works great and sleeps really well and is easy to untangle when you really screw up a trick your learning. Really the only two minor changes I would make to switch it from a 4 star to a 5 star review is adding one or two pictures to the instructions to make it more clear how to attatch a new string to the yo-yo for people who have never attatched a string before or not in over a decade and forgot how, because while the wording on the instructions do a good job, if you just glance at the instructions because of the first picture being putting the string on your finger and the second picture being the final step of putting the string on the yo-yo you could easily misinterpret the pictures to where you put on the string wrong and it becomes a beginner level yo-yo that can not sleep as a pose to intermediate level one. While I did eventually figure it out, because of the pictures the installing of the string could confuse those just learning who have not changed a string (or in my case not changed on in over a decade) before.The only other change I would make, isn't to the product itself but the Amazon page, have it have two options "Yo-yo King Merlin Blue narrow C bearing" and "Yo-yo King Merlin BlueNarrow and Wide C bearing" to make it easier for someone who is maybe looking for an intermediate yo-yo but wants to be able to change it to an advanced yo-yo as their skills improve... Looking at the instructions given with the product it does look like they offer that as an option, just the Amazon page doesn't show that so I would have never known they have that as a option.All in all, while there are better yo-yos for beginners, I would honestly say that this yo-yo can really handle fairly beginner, as well as intermediate and advanced. The shape feels good to throw, Its got a decent weight to it, easy to take apart and untangle, all in all it's a yo-yo that if your looking for something to learn with is really well made. 5Yoyos have bearings?Wow, yoyos have come a long way since I was a kid--or maybe as a kid I just always had crappy yoyos.Who knew yoyos had ball bearings? I sure didn't.My kids wanted a yoyo so I spent 10 seconds on Amazon and ordered this one.I'm not a yoyo rocket surgeon or anything, but this seems like a pretty nice unit. It's got good weight to it and it'll sleep for a long time. The bearing isn't whisper quiet and feels like it could spin smoother, but it hasn't affected our yoyo tricks. If you're a professional yoyo-er, your opinion may vary. I took 1 star off for the bearing.All in all, this is a great toy for a little more than 10 bucks. 4Good for beginnersI wanted a cheap yo-yo to play around with and decided on this one on a whim. I wound up ordering two more because I liked it and everyone around me wanted to play with it and learn tricks. I wound up having to return one for a defect, but that happens with anything. It's plastic, which is a better material for beginners than metal. Considering the price, you can't get hurt too bad. It sleeps. It does string tricks. It's easy on the hand. If you're considering getting into throwing, this is a safe bet. There are some advanced tricks this yo yo can't do, but it's great for learning the basics. 5INCREDIBLE!!!INCREDIBLE!!! When my son received the Yo-Yo in the mail, opened it up, and unscrewed it to install the string, the little balls fell out of the bearing. I sent an email to Yoyo King about the issue. He immediately responded back and apologized for the messed up bearing and promised to make it right. He promptly sent out not only a replacement, but an entirely new Yo-Yo and bearing, along with extra string of different colors! I have never felt more like a valued customer than this! I will only ever purchase from Yoyo King and guarantee to be a customer for life! 5Given thumbs up by a 4yo kid and his mom. I am by no means a yoyo master, so take this for what you will.The weight of this feels nice in your hand. It spins nicely. It throws well. And my dear 4yo son who has been tortured by cheap garbage yoyos finally got to feel the yoyo spin on the string and return to him. He even got it to return, all by himself! Which is exactly the kind of "yes, you CAN do anything if you practice well" experience that I wanted for him. The extra strings and instructions are a bonus, as I just learned how to restring a yoyo with that. No idea why there are two rubber gaskets included with the two strings. Nice product. 5Works very well with good customer service tooI love this yo-yo. It sleeps like it were having a wonderful dream, yet it wakes up immediately at the tug on the string. It's well balanced and wide enough for many string tricks. With the ball bearing, it sleeps "through the night," you might say. In other words...for a long time. I expect to purchase more, and to use them for many years,ONE MONTH LATER:I had a problem with the bearing becoming noisy - probably my own fault for oiling it improperly. Today I was surprised to find a replacement Merlin Pro (gorgeous yellow) with the usual extra strings, but also with an extra bearing and response pads. I'm incredibly grateful. And...the new bearing and response pads have made my original blue work lke new. Both are quiet and perfect now. Thank you. 5This aint your daddy's yoyo...it's amazing!Great simple yoyo. I was a Dunkin fanboy because thats what my dad used when he grew up spinning tops and playing stoop ball. I grew up aspiring to be the yoyo champ of Long Island using my Dunkin gem and butterfly. I'm convinced that if I sold out and bought a Merlin at Woolworth instead of the Dunkin, I'd be flying out to the Hamptons on my private helicopter living the life as a prolific Youtuber with millions of subscribers to my Dude Perfect-esque yoyo tricks. Instead I'm slaving away in a cubicle. Don't make the same mistake with your children I did. Make their childhoods magical and get the Merlin. 5I am very satisfied with my king blue merlin yoyoI am very satisfied with my king blue merlin yoyo! It's the best I ever had. All my friends tried it and now they all want one. If you love yoyos, this is the one. I have bought many cheaper ones: I would have better saved my money and buy this at the beginning. Money well spent. 5Hit and missThis review is a little tough for me to write because based off my purchase, I am completely happy with my Yoyo. The quality is good and it perfectly fits the needs I wanted. I wanted I Yoyo I could sleep well and do fairly basic tricks with. Something that was better than a stock Duncan at the same price range. It does that. I can make it sleep for nearly 45 seconds on my best throws. I can do a ton of tricks that were already in my arsenal, and I'm getting to learn a bunch more thanks to the glories of YouTube tutorials.The only reason why I'm knocking off a star is for this. I suggested this brand to my colleague and he got the same Yoyo, but the green version. The Yoyo he got was incredibly lopsided in it's spin. I felt bad. I know it was only like $18 with shipping (yes, I'm not a Prime Member), but the shock in difference of quality was insane. Even his strings were a poorer quality. And I just can understand why.All that said, I'm hoping that his purchases was just a one off and unfortunate anomaly. My Yoyo is great. The paper inside the plastic case is slightly bent, but not too noticeable. So not dinging anything there. I'm generally very pleased with my purchase. Wish I could say the same for my friends. 4
